(Gasa Hot Spring Tour 8 nights/ 9 days)

Gasa Hot Spring Tour is one of the most popular destinations for both local people and the tourists. The people of Bhutan believe that this hot spring cures people of their diseases like skin diseases, joint pains, urinary tract infection and ulcer.

Day 01: Arrive Paro and Paro Sightseeing (Altitude: 2280 m)

Upon arrival at the Paro International Airport, you will be received by the representative  and transfer you to your hotel.

After lunch,

  • Ta Dzong (built in 1656 and renovated in 1968)
  • Rimpung Dzong (literally meaning “Heap of Jewels”) and walk across the Nyemi Zam to your car.
  • Evening at leisure/ or a visit to a farm house can be arranged.

Dinner and overnight in Tashi Namgay Resort or similar. www.tnr.bt

Optional activities you can choose:

  • Hike to Dzongdrakha Monastery.
  • Hike to Nunnery.
  • Mountain biking around Paro valley.

Day 02: Paro Sightseeing: Acclimatization: You will begin an early morning hike to the Taktsang monastery. In this exercise, you will be gaining roughly 800 meters in less than three hours. Lunch will be served in the cafeteria.

After lunch,

  • Drive to the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong
  • Kyichu Lhakhang.

  • Hike to Dzongdrakha Monastery.
  • Hike to Nunnery.
  • Mountain biking around Paro valley.

Day 03: Paro – Thimphu (Altitude: 2320 m) (Distance: 54 km, 1 hr drive): After breakfast, drive to Thimphu. On the way,

  • View Tamchog Lhakhang.
  • Visit Simtokha Dzong the oldest fortress in Bhutan built in the 17th century by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the unifier of Bhutan.

After Lunch, visit

  • Drive to Sangay Gang viewpoint to have a full view of Thimphu valley.
  • Takin Preserve Centre where National Animals are kept.
  • Tashichho Dzong, fortress of the glorious religion.

Evening at leisure. Your guide can take you to a few souvenir shops if you desire.  Dinner and overnight in Hotel Migmar or similar. www.hotelmigmar.com

Day 04: Thimphu – Punakha (Altitude: 1310 m) (76 km, 3hrs). After breakfast, drive to Punakha via Dochula Pass (3150 m).

  • Royal Botanical Garden at Lamperi.

After lunch, visit

  • Punakha Dzong built in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.

Dinner and O/N in Meri Punsum Resort or similar. www.meripuensum.bt

  • White water Rafting in Pho Chu/ Mo Chu/ Camping in Jomlingthang.
  • Visit to Talo Monastery.
  • Hike to Khamsung Yulley Namgyal Choling Monastery

Day 05. Punakha – Gasa (71 km, 3hrs). Walk an hour or so to reach the Tsachu (hot spring). Enjoy the Gasa hot springs. Dip yourself in the hot springs and get rejuvenated. Overnight in camp.

Day 06: Tsachu – Gangtey (Altitude: 3120 m)(139 km, 6-7 hrs): Dip yourself once again in the hot spring before taking a hike to the Gasa town about an hour from the hot spring. While in town, visit

  • Gasa Dzong.

We then drive to Punakha. After lunch, drive to Gangtey. Dinner and overnight in Theckchen Phodrang guest house or similar.

Day 07: Gangtey – Wangdi Phodrang – Thimphu (2320 m)(144km, 6-7 hrs): After Breakfast, visit:

  • Gangtey Gompa – Gyaltse Pema Thinley, the grandson and mind reincarnation of Pema Lingpa founded the Temple in 1613, and Tenzin Legpai Dhendup.
  • Explore Phobjikha valley, famous for the Black Necked Cranes during winter.

After lunch, drive to Wangdi / Metshina and hike to Chime Lhakhang, which was built by Lama Drukpa Kuenley. The Temple is also known as “the Temple of Fertility”.

In the evening, drive to Thimphu. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Migmar or similar.

Thimphu: 

Day 08: Thimphu Sightseeing – Paro (2280 m)(54km, 1 hr): After breakfast, visit

  • Memorial Chorten
  • The National Library
  • The National Folk Heritage Museum
  • The Traditional Painting school of Arts and Crafts
  • The Institute of Traditional Medicine

After lunch,

  • Buddha Point

And drive to Paro and over night at Tashi Namgay Resort or similar.

Optional Activities you can choose:

  • Weekend Market
  • Talk on Gross National Happiness / Buddhism.
  • Phajoding Monastery.
  • Mountain biking around Thimphu

Day 09: Departure from Paro: Early morning, drive to the airport and farewell.

THINGS TO BRING FOR A TREK IN BHUTAN
Personal clothing: strong normal clothing (according to season). Preferably cotton, even for summer, woolen clothing for the evening and winter.
For Trekking, one must bring :
• Strong comfortable trekking boots – water-resistant for the rainy period-June-August.
• Sunscreen
• Flash light
• Rain coat (especially for rainy period –June-August)
• Head gear/hat/cap; sun and rain protection
• Water pills – for extra caution in purifying stream; (boiled water is provided at all times during the trek)
• Aspirin – incase of altitude sickness
• Lots of socks
• Warm clothes
